Welcome to our new alternative energy technologies website. Our focus is on energy generation by ecologically acceptable means and energy procurement techniques at all levels including the smallest scale methodolgies we can implement. This site will report the results of practical projects being attempted by individuals and organisations throughout Scotland. It's no use just worrying about it - we have to tackle it, and this site celebrates the people and the organisations with the drive to do so.

Electricity? Just click the switch ... but how can we generate enough without coal, oil or gas?

Heating? Just turn up the thermostat ... but how can we run the central heating with no natural gas?

Road Fuel? Just fill up with diesel ... but where will it come from without crude oil?

Free Fuel Our first highlighted project is truly amazing. Antony Berretti, an Italo-Scot from Newton Stewart in Scotland's forgotten South West, is going to drive from Calais to Bridisi around the west coast of Europe. Why is this amazing? Because he's not going to spend a penny on fuel! Click here to find out more.

Micro Tide Our next featured project could solve the electricity problem for ever. Click here to find out about about the micro-scale tidal generator that could be as big as the world's electricity needs.

Offshore Wind We like windmills! They're elegant, stylish, harmless and almost invisible to nearly everybody. Many people, however, don't agree and fear that they will dwarf the landscape and destroy their pleasure in the countryside on the rare occasions they visit it. So we could put them out to sea (the windmills, not the objectors!) - click here to visit Robin Rigg, soon to be the biggest offshore wind farm in the UK.

Hydro Power The Galloway Hydro Electric Scheme is one of the jewels in the region's renewables crown, and it has been generating since 1935! In 1985 it was extended by the installation of the Drumjohn power station, a 2.25MW Induction generator, bringing the maximum generating capacity of the scheme up to 105MW. Because the generators can be brought on-line very quickly, the scheme's greatest strength is in providing power to balance the varying loads on the supply grid. There is potential to integrate the Galloway HES with other renewable sources in the region.
