This is a minor, but significant, upgrade to UniCOMAL V3.11 Students'. It is suitable for use on PCs running 32-bit Microsoft Windows operating systems. It contains, in addition to the components of V3.11, the Unitimer module, the Timers module and MacharSoft's own Buttons modules with their program samples. The interpreter supplied is COMAL87.EXE, which expects to find a hardware floating-point coprocessor in the computer, and so requires at least an 80486DX, or an 80386-with-80387 combination, or any Pentium-class processor. The whole package is supplied in compressed form on a single 1.44M high-density diskette.
Ths version is not suitable for installation on DOS or 16-bit Windows systems. Users who need a version for use on these systems can still order UniCOMAL V3.11 (Students' or Developers'). Users please note that, although V3.12 is intended for use under 32-bit Windows, it remains a DOS development system and cannot be used to develop MS-Windows applications.
For the first time, the distribution diskette has an MS-Windows Setup program to make it easier to install the package under MS-Windows 95, 98, 2000 or NT. The setup program installs the files into the C:\STCOMAL\ directory, and adds an entry to the Windows Start/Programs menu.
No manuals are included. There is a short step-by-step guide to installation under MS-Windows, and a Welcome Guide which takes the student through getting started, configuring the system and using the program editor.
Besides the reference manuals, V3.11 Students' does not contain the following: Compiler; Serial Communications Module (SCOM); 'C' Toolkit; Assembler toolkit; Btrieve database module; Danish, Swedish and German message systems; Help file compiler. Neither are any of the help files which accompany the above components included. All these components are supplied only with V3.11 Developers'.
Registered owners of either of the the Students' versions are entitled to upgrade to the Developers' version for the difference in (ex. VAT.) price between the two. Registered users UniCOMAL V3.11 Students' can upgrade to V3.12 free by returning their original issue diskette, in a padded bag, with a return address label and two first-class stamps to cover the cost of return postage.
Like V3.11, V3.12 is accompanied by an extra diskette containing UniCOMAL support material from this website in .HTML and .ZIP format. The price, for either version, remains unchanged.
UniComal V3.12 students is intended for use on 32-bit Microsoft Windows systems. The package, once uncompressed from the distribution diskette, has, however, been shown to run on any version of DOS above DOS 3; on PC-compatible systems having at least 512K of RAM; on Acorn 32-bit systems with Acorn's PCSoft DOS Emulator; on Acorn RISC-PCs; on PCs running Windows 95; on DEC Alpha workstations running Windows NT; and on Apple Macs running SoftWindows; and on Unix and Linux systems using DOSemu.
UniCOMAL is a brand name of the Prolog Development Center in Broendby, Denmark, published under licence by MacharSoft.
